Well, 200 more 2010 books are done and sitting in my home office right now. These things are going like hot cakes (or pancakes I guess) so we’ve got to keep up the supply to meet the demand. Our new year is just hours away now and I will probably sleep through it in all reality. But before I do just wanted to pause for a moment to reflect on what this year will mean to many people at our church. A chance to be challenged in their personal spiritual development. An opportunity to "beat their body and make it their slave." A new start. A fresh beginning. I’m excited at the response to our 2010 campaign and hope it will retain the excitement it has generated. Let’s go into 2010 with a hope to see God change us in ways never before imagined. Like these books will no doubt spur change in other’s lives, let’s be a light to those around us. Have a great new year and may Jesus be your reward.

The CS Team rocks and I want to say a huge ‘thank you’ to everyone involved! Didn’t feel right just typing a post, so I did what any normal person would do and threw a video on YouTube. Check it out and Merry Christmas!

On Wednesday and Thursday we shot footage for our upcoming 2010 promotional videos. These will show during our weekend services in December. This effort is to raise awareness of and give some creative energy behind the 2010 focus starting January 1. The actors for the videos did an amazing job and the videos turned out great (we still have one to shoot). Lighting was a little tricky for the shots in the home. We did not use any special lighting but instead relied solely on the indoor lighting. Luckily, our camera has an aperture setting to let in more light, so we were able to balance the light fairly well. The audio on the footage will be scrubbed and a song will be played behind the video. This small piece saved us time in shooting because all cues could be done on the fly. Check out this small excerpt from our home footage…
Thanks.//Joe for recruiting actors from your department//Frank for being the boss//Steve for being hilarious//Heath for being a great young hip dad//Karen for making water soup for an hour//Matthew for getting slapped by sister four or five times in a row//Madison for slapping your brother four or five times in a row//

Last year, we started an outreach program called “Fill-A-Box, Feed-A-Family” with the intended purpose of reaching out to families who may be pinching pennies to have a decent Thanksgiving meal. The outreach was a huge success last year, with many from the church giving of their time, energy, resources and money to be a part of this cause. The response this year was even more overwhelming. We decided to take on the challenge of linking up with a local school (Taft Elementary) to help the families of the students. We were able to collect over 100 boxes (each box representing a meal for a family) from our church for the project. Way to go church for being Jesus to our community. Hopefully they felt loved from our church during the holiday season!
Thanks.//Ginger for waking up early and taking these amazing pictures capturing this event//

Today is the day to capture our first round of photos for our upcoming 2010 focus. The numbers turned out great! Took some pics at Jefferson Park…now off to our next location. Got some amazing pics from this parking lot. Great angles. Good contrast. Good work and eye, Jake.
General camera settings: aperture F29//shutter 1/80//iso 100. Realizing you can’t really crack the aperture open in broad daylight a get a decent amount of movement through your shutter setting. Kind of a no-brainer now that I think about it. Any good ideas on getting movement during the day? We’ve got some wicked ideas for some 2 – 4 second open shutter night-time shots, but have yet to tread that ground.
Thanks.//Jake for taking some crazy artistic pics and for having the patience to endure me monkeying with the aperture settings for 10 minutes straight//

Wanted to pass on some work that is truly amazing in the design world. David McCandless has been featured in Wired magazine for his incredible creative visual designs. A particularly inspiring project of his is found at this site:
This site’s title could not be more accurate. He and his team create beautiful visuals reflecting raw real-world data. Very inspiring to look at from a design-standpoint. Here are some examples (click each image to see a larger version):
